Ah Sun-flower! weary of time,
Who countest the steps of the sun:
Seeking after that sweet golden clime
Where the traveller’s journey is done.
Where the Youth pined away with desire,
And the pale virgin shrouded in snow:
Arise from their graves and aspire,
Where my Sunflower wishes to go.
Okay, it’s not a “sonnet” but it is a “little song.”
I was reading William Blake’s Song’s of Experience to my son about 10 years ago. When I came to Ah! Sun-flower, William Blake’s spirit came to me and put this tune in my head.
I sang it and sent it to my friend, Mike Jasper, a talented musician in Texas. Mike produced it for me (and Blake). Now Blake has been bugging me ever since then to make this available to as many people as possible.
Enjoy the song. If you are a musician and want to perform it, or if Blake visited you and told you to perform it, send me an email and I will send you all the files and documents from the production Mike did for me. He did it as a work-for-hire, so I own the copyright, but I will not demand any royalties if you use it. Blake would be pissed if I did!
